Smart & Sexy Historical Romance

What's my fave?

People often ask me what my favorite book is of those I have written.

That’s like asking a parent to say which child is their favorite.

However, speaking as the favorite child out of 4….(Just kidding) I do have some characters that are more-favorite than other characters. I know, favorite is an absolute adjective (like unique) but I’m going to mess with the word, just because I can.

I’ll do 2 lists, one for favorite historical romance and one for favorite erotic historical romance because I know not everyone reads my erotic books.

Favorite Historical Romance:

If I had to say which of my books I like the most, overall (characters and story) it would probably be THE BOXING BARONESS. I really did have a good time writing in some real historical characters and doing a little “what if” with history. I also think my female boxer does a good job of walking the line between badass and dumbass (that is my word for fictional heroines who are way, way, way too modern in their historical setting and drive me bonkers). That said, of course it is fiction so there is an improbably happy ending with a hot duke (who doesn’t just have all his teeth, but abs. ABS!)

My favorite female character is Hyacinth from…HYACINTH. She was a very easy, natural character for me to write and I really enjoyed the arc of her story.

My favorite hero…urgh. That’s a difficult decision. Can I have a tie? Yes…I can do anything I want, because it is my blog. John from THE BASTARD and Martine from SCANDALOUS. John is just…well, I think he would make the perfect mate. He is thoughtful, kind, hot, unexpectedly tender, and he is the ultimate protector. Oh, and he is quiet and mysterious and deep.

And Martine is just so out of control. And sexy. He is also smart, loyal, and hard working. My favorite thing about him is how much fun it is to tease him. The other characters, male and female, have a field day with him throughout the 3 books. As much as he has going for him, there is insecurity that makes him take himself too seriously sometimes.

Favorite Erotic Romance:

My favorite book is HIS HARLOT I don’t think it is better than the others, what I like about it is that I wrote it in a kind of fugue state and it was SO MUCH FUN! I just let the characters do whatever they wanted and they did NOT disappoint.

Jo from HIS VALET is one of my favorite characters over all, not just in my erotic romances, but out of all my stories. When a character comes alive like Jo did, that is when I love being a writer.

Best erotic romance hero IMO is Gideon from HIS COUNTESS. He is SUCH A JERK but I love him so much!! Whenever I am having difficulty motivating myself I re-read sections of my books that I really enjoy. The dinner table scene with Gideon and Alys is one of my all time faves and I laugh every time. I just NAILED his internal monologue.

So, there are some faves.

Of course if you ask me tomorrow, it is likely they will be different, lol.

Check out this SUPER COOL post card I received from Australia.

I joined in a Christmas card swap and sent out over 80 cards. It was so much fun! I received a bunch in return, but this one just came in about a week ago, all the way from the other side of the world. Is that cute, or what? It is a kookaburra and the card is a first day issue stamp (bottom right corner). I always send my letters and packages with a bunch of old postage stamps because Mr. Spencer is a collector and we like to support the USPS. Rarely, if ever, have I received a card like this in return. I love it.

Oh, and if you are wondering what is propping it up, that is a tribble.

  1. Gideon is my favorite! I have recommended his book and liken him to the Lisa Kleypas GOAT- Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent IF he were more of depraved, deviant and dangerous.

    Love!

So glad to see you on the blog.

    1. I am so glad I’m not the only one who adores Gideon, pain in the ass that he is! And what a lovely compliment to compare him with Lord St. Vincent, who is certainly one of my favorite heroes in HR. I have so many more bad boys lined up for the Vic Dec series! Can’t wait to share them all.
