Balthazar: The Spare

I choked on my G&T yesterday evening when I saw the upcoming autobiography by Prince Harry: Spare.

Several weeks ago I uploaded my upcoming book, BALTHAZAR: THE SPARE on Amazon. Although I beat Harry to the punch with the title, I somehow didn’t get the same buzz. ????

It made me laugh reading all the comments on social media regarding the meaning of of the term “spare”. In fact,  Mr. Spencer asked me what that meant (I think it was more, “Spare? What the hell does that mean?!”)

In the world of historical romance we are very familiar with the phrase ‘an heir and a spare’ used to describe the eldest two sons. Back when primogeniture was the norm in most of the Western world (as it still is in many parts of the globe) regarding second sons as a spare was definitely a ‘thing’.
